Yahoo hopes to reach readers with iPad magazine.

The magazine software unveiled is called Livestand.

Yahoo is joining the computer tablet bandwagon with a digital magazine designed for the iPad.

It can be customized to pull content fromYahoo’s website and other participating publishers to cater to each user’s interest.

Yahoo is counting on Livestand to keep its brand and services relevant as more people embrace Apple Inc.’s iPad and other mobile devices to consume digital content.

Yahoo also hopes the magazine brings in more advertising revenue as it tries to break out of a long running financial funk.

The slump has frustrated investors and thrown Yahoo’s fate into doubt.

Livestand is debuting nearly nine months after Yahoofirst previewed it.

At that time, Yahoo hoped to introduce Livestand by the end of June 2012.

Here are 5 easy ways to increase your landing pages’ conversion rates:

Keep your most important content above the fold.

You want to make it as easy as possible for your website visitors to say “yes” to your offer.

Place your opt-in box above the fold the point on your web page where visitors would have to scroll to see more information.

Your conversion rates will increase if visitors don’t have to scroll to complete your form.

Limit your visitors’ options.

Your landing page will perform better if your visitors’ only option is to complete your form.

That means that you should remove any outside links or navigation from your landing page.

Show the benefits.

You need to entice visitors to opt in for your content.

Just stating the title of your video or white paper is not enough to do this.

Add some copy that explains the benefits of requesting your material.

For example, I like to include short bullet points that highlight what visitors will learn when they check out the content.

Create a sense of urgency.

Try to give your readers a compelling reason why they must request your content now.

For example, you can offer a report or video series for a limited time.

You can also stress that limited spots are available for an upcoming free webinar.

Appeal to skimmers.

Most people won’t read your web content word for word, so you want to ensure your landing page is structured for skimmers.

Make use of headers, sub-headers, bold text, bullets, and white space.

You should also consider red graphics, such as arrows or buttons, to draw a reader’s eye towards your call to action.

Also, be sure to test your landing pages to determine which copy and graphics give you the best results.

For instance:

Try running an A/B split test where you create two versions of your landing page and split your traffic between both pages.

Experiment with different headlines, calls to action and other elements until you learn which page brings you the highest conversion rate.

Apple founder and ex-CEO Steve Jobs died at the age of 56, Apple said on its website.

The cause of death was not disclosed, but Jobs struggled with cancer since 2003.

He underwent a successful surgery in 2004 and a liver transplantation in 2008.

Jobs is credited with being the mastermind of the company’s iconic products – iPhone and iPad.

Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost an amazing human being.

The company said. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and his spirit will forever be the foundation of Apple.

“Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives.

The world is immeasurably better because of Steve,” the company’s board of directors said.

U.S. President Barack Obama issued a statement praising Jobs as one of the greatest American innovators who has brought joy to millions.

“Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs.

Steve was among the greatest of American innovators – brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it,” Obama said.

By making computers personal and putting the internet in our pockets, he made the information revolution not only accessible, but intuitive and fun, he added.

Condolences came from all over the world, including U.S. President Barack Obama, as well as from friends, colleagues and rivals.

“Steve, thank you for being a mentor and a friend. Thanks for showing that what you build can change the world.

I will miss you,” Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg wrote.

“Steve and I first met nearly 30 years ago, and have been colleagues, competitors and friends over the course of more than half our lives.

Jobs’ longtime rival, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates, said.

“The world rarely sees someone who has had the profound impact Steve has had, the effects of which will be felt for many generations to come.”

Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin have also posted their condolences on the Web.

“Steve, your passion for excellence is felt by anyone who has ever touched an Apple product (including the Macbook I am writing this on right now),” Brin said.

“He always seemed to be able to say in very few words what you actually should have been thinking before you thought it,” Page said. “His focus on the user experience above all else has always been an inspiration to me.”

The Pro8400 seems to be confused about what it really is, claiming to be a home entertainment projector but acting for all the world like a business presentations model.

If high brightness is your primary image quality concern then it has you covered but its other merits are few and far between.

If there’s one thing we hate feeling as technology reviewers, it’s confused. Yet that’s exactly the emotion we’ve come away with after spending the past few hours with ViewSonic’s Pro8400 projector.

The thing is, it was ‘sold’ to us as a home cinema projector. An idea underlined by its appearance on ViewSonic’s UK website, where it appears in the ‘Precision Series’ section reckoned to bring ‘high-end performance and style to home entertainment.

it’s quickly apparent that while we can just about see a use for the Pro8400 in very specific home entertainment scenarios, it really feels much more like a business/presentations projector than a living room one.

With a glossy bit of black plastic over its rear half and matt black/grey over its front half, a startlingly big lens hanging out of the right front side, a rather random downward curve on the front upper edge and a grilled finished to the sides and front, there’s just too much going on.

The best thing about the Pro8400’s physical form is that it’s small and light, making it genuinely portable ,especially as it ships with a well made carry case.

Hackers have already expressed already dismay after it emerged that that Cody Kretsinger, who was arrested by the FBI last Thursday for allegedly hacking into the Sony Pictures website, had been identified via his use of HideMyAss’s proxy service to disguise his IP (internetprotocol) address when connecting to the Sony Pictures site.

At least one more member of the hacking group LulzSec, known online as “Neuron”, may be arrested if traced by their use of a Britishanonymous VPN (virtual private network) proxy service, following a similar arrest last week.

Kretsinger allegedly went by the online handle “Recursion” which crops up in chatlogs from the group posted on the Pastebin site. “Recursion” boasted boated of hacking into the Sony Pictures site.

However the Pastebin logs also show that another LulzSec member, using the handle “Neuron”, also claimed to use the HideMyAss service. Neuron and Recursion are not the same people.

The LulzSec chatlog records posted by the Guardian covering a period from 31 May show the two in the same chatroom at the same time, and on one occasion addressing each other directly.

“Recursion” quit the group after it attacked an FBI-related site early in June, but “Neuron” remained.

The company added that it would only hand over logs if they were the subject of a valid UK court order.

If a request for information is sent to us from overseas, we will not accept this request unless it is sent through the appropriate UK channels and a UK judge warrants a court order or a court summons that forces us to provide this information.

We are not intimidated by the US government as some are claiming.

We are simply complying with our countries legal system to avoid being potentially shut down and prosecuted ourselves.

Some questioned whether HideMyAss which says that it helped people in Egypt to evade crackdowns during the Arab spring protests would hand over details of individuals to repressive regimes such as Syria.

The company says in the blogpost that it would not because “[in] UK law, there isn’t a law that prohibits the use of Egyptians gaining access to blocked websites such as Twitter, even if there is one in Egypt.”

The revelation that the service retains some log details has caused outrage amid parts of the hacking community with a number vowing never to use HideMyAss’s service again.

According to notes on Mozilla’s website.Mozilla is scrambling to deal with Google’s decision to drop the Google Toolbar for Firefox.

Google announced it was killing Google Toolbar for Firefox, and would not be updating the add-on to support Firefox 5 or future versions of the open-source browser.

“For Firefox users, many features that were once offered by Google Toolbar for Firefox are now already built right into the browser,” said Google in amessage Tuesday. “Therefore, while Google Toolbar for Firefox works on versions up to and including Firefox 4 only, it will not be supported on Firefox 5 and future versions.”

Google spokeswoman today said that the company had been talking with Mozilla about the demise of the Toolbar “for some time now,” the decision seemed to catch Mozilla by surprise. On Thursday, Christian Legnitto, Firefox’s release manager, put out a call for a developer meeting later in the day to plan Mozilla’s next moves.

Mozilla’s biggest concern: Users running 2010′s Firefox 3.6 have put off updating to Firefox 5 because the toolbar won’t work with the newer version.

A large amount of [Firefox 3.6] users are not taking update offers to [Firefox] 5+ due to Google Toolbar incompatibility,” theThursday meeting’s notes read.

Nearly a third of all Firefox users still run Firefox 3.6, according to the most recent statistics from Web metrics company StatCounter. Firefox 3.6′s usage share is, in fact, more than double that of Firefox 4.

Mozilla called the toolbar’s incompatibility with newer versions of Firefox “a top support issue.”

But adding code to Firefox 3.6.20 may be tough because of the tight deadline: Developers are supposed to “freeze” the update’s code Aug. 1, 10 days from today.

“If we are going to do something … we have very little time as 3.6.20 code freeze is soon,” said Mozilla.

May update Firefox 3.6 next month to give users a way to migrate bookmarks.

Firefox users were generally unhappy with the Toolbar’s retirement and waiting for Good News Soon from Mozilla.
