Mention “binoculars” and we first think of peeping toms or watching your favorite sport live at the track or field …

Back at the beginning of the seventeenth century when Galileo invented the telescope, two were put side by side and the modern day binoculars were invented. The Galilean design is still used today for the less expensive versions and has some limitations in terms of its magnification capabilities.

A better design which can produce improved images at a higher magnification uses Keplerian optics. This was an improvement on the Galilean design and came from the Keplerian Telescope that was invented in 1611 by Johannes Kepler. This method has one problem, the image you see is inverted but there are ways to get around this.

An Italian politician named Ignazio Porro came up with a double Z design called and called it the Porro Prism. It was patented in 1852 but was improved toward the end of the century by manufacturer Carl Zeiss. Carl Zeiss has achieved great success and are still around after all these years and are still very successful.

At the time most units being made were used for visits to the opera and so were mainly fixed magnification items. This was not always to be the case as they gained popularity with from other fields such as the military. Traditionally they had magnification adjusters on both eyepieces. Unfortunately this process was quite slow which was ok if you were looking at something that was static and have time to adjust them.

Their use was becoming more and more widespread especially for use in the field by the military. To make them more practical for use in the field they were fitted with a central focusing adjuster. With one movement both tubes could be focused at the same time resulting in much quicker vision of far off subjects. Once the individual tubes had been adjusted to meet the strength of each eye then the whole unit could be altered by turning one wheel. In terms of practical military use this meant that a massive increase in the advantage gained by their use.

Another method of changing the magnification is the zoom lens although these tend to be used in cameras. This uses a number of lenses that can be adjusted by the use of a zoom lever. The design is less practical as it is quite fragile. The zoom lens is also linked with eyestrain and fatigue of the eyes.

Today, binoculars are often used by amateur astronomers and are good for spotting events like comets and other astrological events. They have a far greater range these days but those that are greater in size than 70mm are better for terrestrial viewing and it’s really when you go over the 90mm that astronomical users tend to utilize them.

At the moment the designs that are in use are very similar to what was first thought about all those years. It certainly is a situation that we don’t often see in today’s age of technological advances. In almost every other field the way in which things have been done have changed beyond all recognition. The ideas of Galileo and Kepler have lasted throughout the centuries and they don’t look like they are going anywhere for a long time to come.

Mike Davis has a best binoculars review blog. He reviews many binoculars and categorizes them for easy reading like best small binocular, best lightweight binocular, best binocular for hiking and so on.

Does anyone remember the Logitech QuickCall USB Speakerphone back in 2007: Though it looked like a pair of binoculars, there’s no doubt that this gadget was a VoIP speakerphone. The shape was apparently not for kicks, but served a larger purpose – to remove the echo that’s a common complaint with VoIP calls. Apparently this was done using Logitech’s RightSound Technology. It used two microphones – one on each side of the phone – to capture sound from a larger area.

One important thing is having the pool water at the correct temperature to make sure you and your family are able to enjoy it most of the year. While there are various pool heaters on the market that will make sure your water is warm early in the spring or into the late fall, how do you know you have the correct temperature for the pool water? You’re going to need to look into pool thermometers.

If you want to keep track of your pool water’s temperature, you really need to purchase an accurate thermometer made specifically for pool use. If you are using your pool year-round you’ll want to check the temperature of the pool before you just dive in to avoid getting a cold shock or a surprise. During the summer months it is usually preferable to keep the pool water cooler than in other months. However, you can extend your pool usage into spring and fall and, depending upon where you live, even in the winter months as long as you keep the water warm enough to be enjoyable.

Thermometers vary from novel and fun floating “gizmos” to very stylish designs and basic models. Thermometers are available with either analog or digital readouts.

Analog thermometers can be broken down further into two general categories. There are both floating and hanging thermometers. I personally prefer the hanging thermometers over the floating kind as they give a much more accurate temperature reading.

Readings can be taken from several inches or even feet beneath the surface of the water, and the temperature at the surface is generally warmer. Kids seem to prefer the floating thermometers, though, because they come designed as toys, animals or other objects that can be fun and attractive.

It seems the digital pool thermometers are quite accurate at measuring the temperature of your pool water. These thermometers are constructed using sturdy materials that make them easily resistant to sunlight and chemicals. However, it seems digital thermometers are often not a long-lasting as a more traditional analog thermometer. Several of the digital models even have added features such a clocks and timers.

Knowing what the pool temperature is can help you to maintain it at the perfect temperature for you. Any pool with a heater truly needs a pool thermometer. It will help you keep track of how well your heating system is working. Regardless of your needs, you will be able to find a pool thermometer to meet them. With the right thermometer, and the perfect temperature, all that’s left to do is enjoy the pool with your family.

Now, Marty has written on topics other than just thermometers. Be sure to check out either chocolate thermometer or electric blinds!

Some of my pals have been asking me if I will be bringing along a portable speaker when we head to our annual beach picnic. I told them that I shall be bringing just one but I’m just unsure which one I will be bringing with me to the beach. Today, I’ve just happened to be really frustrated on deciding which portable speaker to take along to our beach picnic. I like music at the beach and there’s no way that I am going there without my mp3 player and a superior portable set of speakers. In my eagerness and fondness with portable speakers, I just didn’t realize that I already have five portable speakers that I use each and every time. I use each one depending on the situation and place.

When I am at home, I plug my mp3 player to my Altec Lansing InMotion iM7. It’s particularly made for the Apple iPod Nano mp3 player so I bought myself one since I’ve an Apple iPod Nano. I find this portable speaker really terrific in terms of the sound quality and I just couldn’t ask for anything more for my iPod Nano.

The only thing that I don’t like about it is that it’s a little too big to be portable and that the slot or the dock is limited and is exclusive just for the iPod Nano and knowing Apple, they won’t make a product with all the good features in one device. You will need to buy 10 items with 10 different key features if you are that keen with the features. So I don’t think it’ll be a great idea to bring the Altec Lansing InMotion iM7 to the beach since some of my friends with a different mp3 player might want to share my speakers at the beach.

The Altec Lansing inMotion im500 portable speaker that I’ve is really just one of the speakers that I am choosing from because this one is basically not as heavy as the first speaker I told you relating to. This just one is slim and truly light-weight weight. You will not possess a hard time carrying it around with you because you will not have to be bothered concerning where to put it. Purely just slip it inside your tote bag and your fantastic music goes with you wherever you go. Nevertheless, another thing that you may possibly find disadvantageous with regards to this speaker is that is features a dock that aids only the Apple iPod Nano when again.

I really do not know why I have 2 various iPod Nanos with 2 diverse speakers to play them with but I don’t think it will likely be a great idea to give my Altec Lansing inMotion im500 despite its excellent sound quality that is perfect for the outdoors such as the beach. The other 2 speakers that I’ve will demand to possess a power source so I don’t think you could call them extremely portable since there will not be electrical outlets at the beach.

That leaves me with my latest acquisition which happens to be a Sony Ericsson Wireless Stereo Speakers MBS-400. I think this is the excellent speaker that I’ve bought so far because it is just not exclusive just for my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 android phone but it works perfectly with other mobile devices with the Bluetooth feature. That means that my friends is going to be in a position to share my speakers remotely and all they’ve to do is to sync their particular mobile traction device to my Sony Ericsson Wireless Stereo Speakers MBS-400 and they’re ready to party at the beach.
