Partnership With Kulim High Tech Park To Provide Improved R&D and Industrial Training, Commercialization

Cyberjaya, 5^th August – Multimedia University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kulim Technology Park Corporation (KTPC) that will bring high-end R&D projects to MMU researchers and students alike.

Areas targeted for collaboration include those on emerging technologies such as nanotechnology and wireless network centres.

The agreement also provides a base for industrial training for MMU students, undergraduate & postgraduate courses, seminars, industry familiarization activities, joint R&D projects, commercialization opportunities and joint collaborations in other areas.

MMU was represented by its President, Prof. Dr. Zaharin Yusoff, and KTPC by its President, Hj. Muhamad Sobri Osman. It was witnessed by MMU’s Chancellor, Tun Siti Hasmah Hj Mohd Ali, MMU Board Chairman, Datuk Halim Shafie, and FRM Chairman, Dato’ Pahamin.

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Zaharin described how MMU’s efforts on becoming a Research University hinges on strategic partnerships with leading organizations such as KTPC, whose status as the “Science City of the Future” is key in advancing technological entrepreneurship in the country.

In the same ceremony, MMU through its commercialization arm, Cnergy, also relaunched MMU’s Technopreneur Development Programme (TDP). Through Cnergy and TDP, MMU aims to develop a new generation of graduates who will not only create technology and content, but will find it natural to leap into entrepreneurship as well. Prof. Zaharin says he hopes to see more MMU graduates to be more like the creators of Upin & Ipin, who graduated from MMU’s Faculty of Creative Multimedia.

Also present at the ceremony was MMU’s Chancellor, Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah Hj Mohd Ali. In her speech, she commented on how she believes that technopreneurship will one day be the current driving force of the country’s economy.

Tun Dr. Siti Hasmah also expects that the MoU signing with KTPC will help to advance technopreneur development in the country, and sees start-ups such as “Friendly Rabbit Media” and “Enveluv.com” as essential to showing the way forward.
