The Japanese Carrier NTT DoCoMo had to cancel their participation at the CTIA Wireless show in Orlando the week of March 22-24, 2011. The show started just 10 days after the devastating earthquake and tsunami disaster on March 11, 2011. On the NTT DoCoMo website, the company said they needed to focus their full energy on the uninterrupted delivery of mobile communication services in support of urgent relief and recovery efforts in Japan.

CTIA showed support for DoCoMo by leaving their booth area open with a banner and vase of cherry blossoms which connote the enduring metaphor for the ephemeral nature and the delicate beauty of life.

Attendees were asked to donate $10 to the Red Cross by texting …

The president of CTIA in one of the keynotes said the wireless industry had stepped up to provide many resources to Japan – including cash donations, infrastructure support, and free calls and texts to Japan. Techistan and DIDX team members donated $878.43 in total and does encourage others to donate to help. Donations can still be sent via text.

Some of the Techistan and DIDx team had a moment of silence at booth 3782 at CTIA and also during Showstoppers the week of International CTIA Wireless 2011 in Orlando.
