Siri has become one of the most well known features on the new Apple iPhone 4S.

Android owners have scoured the Android Market, looking for an app that can duplicate Siri’s functionality and now, it appears that Cluzee is the answer.

Ask Cluzee when your next appointment is and the app will tell you when it is, where it is and the time of the appointment.

It will also give you what time you need to leave in order to make the appointment and which streets and highways you need to take.

Cluzee can also send out email or text messages to those people on your contact list that are involved in the appointment.

While Siri can handle more commands now than Cluzee can at this point.

There is nothing that stops future updates from taking the app past Siri.

And while the latter is basically locked into the iOS platform.

Cluzee will be available on all platforms thanks to HTML5.

For those Android users longing for something similar to Siri.

We will soon have a full breakdown of all options available on the Android Market.

With all of the battles that go on between Apple users and Android users.

We can just imagine a battle brewing in the future between Siri and Cluzee over which personal assistant is better.

Cluzee will have to improve however, as early reports say that the program is quite buggy.

Social networking will soon become a predominantly mobile activity. The number of people accessing social networks from mobile phones will exceed 550 million in 2011, and that figure will more than triple to over 1.7 billion by the end of 2016.

For Facebook, the growing importance of mobile is both an opportunity and a serious strategic challenge.

On one hand, mobile allows the world’s leading social network to engage with millions of new consumers, but on the other hand its ability to make money from mobile users remains untested.

A huge problem for Facebook is that while on the web it is a platform, on mobile it’s just another application.

To strengthen its hand in the short term we expect Facebook to aggressively take advantage of HTML5, but in the longer term it should absolutely become a mobile operating system of its own.

The symbiosis of social networks and mobile phones can also be seen in recent moves by Google and Apple. Google’s attempt at social networking.

Google+, has been designed to benefit from deep integration with Android, which is likely to go down well with application developers. Meanwhile, Apple has teamed up with Twitter and built the microblogging service into the iOS 5.

The interesting aspect in Apple’s and Twitter’s partnership is how it can provide iPhone users with a verifiable social identity for websites and apps.

That gives developers a lot of scope to innovate in areas such as authentication, personalization and advertising.

Windows 8 will have two versions of Internet Explorer 10, a desktop version and the Metro version, which is optimized for tablets.

The experience that plug-ins provide today is not a good match with Metro style browsing and the modern HTML5 web, writes Dean Hachamovitch, head of the Internet Explorer team, on Microsoft’s official blog.

Microsoft’s reasoning is eerily similar to Steve Jobs’s legendary open letter on Flash from April 2010 in which he wrote, The mobile era is about low power devices, touch interfaces and open web standards all areas where Flash falls short.

Hachamovitch goes on to explain how today’s web is largely HTML5-based and designed for a plugin-free experience. Microsoft recently examined 97,000 web sites, and discovered that 62% of them use Flash, but many of those need it only to display ads.

Furthermore, a large number of Flash-using sites fall back to HTML5 if the user’s browser doesn’t support it.

Although the desktop version of IE10 will continue to support all plugins and extensions, this is another defeat for Adobe, whose Flash is slowly losing relevance as the web expands to smartphones and tablets.

While some have bypassed app stores by creating HTML5 “web apps,” the vast majority of Android and iOS developers have to think about how to market their listings within app stores. Marketing within app marketplaces is still a black box. Most marketplaces (likeApple’s, for instance) provide no analytics or feedback. But by using the little information you do get, and comparing results across various marketplaces, an app developer can start to get an idea of the marketing tactics that work. These tips can help drive traffic, and hopefully sales, to your listing.

Launched a new, faster, more complete app for the iPad and iPhone which is available via your browser rather than from an app store.switch to immediately to the new FT web app, as many new features and sections will be added over the coming weeks. Make sure you don’t miss out on these updates.Go to app.ft.com on your iPad or iPhone.

A better, faster app

Using the new app has a number of benefits:

Web browser access – No app store download needed

Automatic enhancements – No need to visit an app store for the latest version

Reading offline – The latest edition is automatically stored for offline access

Speed – Improved performance on most connections

Greater range of content – Including video on iPhone

We encourage you to do this so you can enjoy full access to the app when you are offline.

Optimised for your iPad and iPhone

The app is optimised to best fit the screen size of the device you are using. So when viewing on iPhone you will see a slightly different navigation in order to provide access to the full breadth of FT content – including video – on a small screen.

The vast majority of Android and iOS developers have to think about how to market their listings within app stores. Marketing within app marketplaces is still a black box. Most marketplaces (likeApple’s, for instance) provide no analytics or feedback. It’s no hidden fact that Internet is no more restricted to the research agencies, student bodies and libraries; it now is accessible by millions of people from the comfort of their homes and offices. A prerequisite for that is a web browser which enables a person to access the World Wide Web.

The most commonly available browsers are Microsoft’s Internet explorer 9, Firefox, Google Chrome, Opera, Safari by Apple, etc. A perpetual endeavor to bring out innovations has brought out a competitive edge among these browsers. The Microsoft’s Internet Explorer has always held a dominant share in the web browser market but it had started to fade against a strong competition from Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome owing to its lack of support for web standards.

However, with the latest entrant IE9 from its side, Microsoft has placed a heavy focus on web standards and speeds by embracing HTML5 and CSS3 and has made its presence unfaltering again.

The company launched IE9 Platform review 3 recently. What came out as the most prominent observation was; how IE9 makes a far better use of the hardware. The HTML5 operations like zoom and scroll now run at 60 frames per second or more even with notebooks with decent GPU’s. All this leaves you with a richer experience attributable to quicker page loading, faster and smoother animation and high quality images.

Apple worked on something similar but its browser, Safari still lags behind the IE p3. Firefox and Chrome haven’t worked on hardware acceleration as yet. So, when it comes to graphic performance, IE9 leaves behind Firefox and Chrome behind.

For Microsoft, it’s a great way of differentiating IE9 and Windows from other browsers and platforms because it’s the only major company that has the advantage of focusing all its energies and resources on making its software run well on one operating system which it happens to control.

However, if an HTML5 speed test is conducted between IE9, Firefox 3.7, Chrome 6, and opera; IE9 p3 is only narrowly beaten by Firefox. IE9 and Firefox not only outperform the other browsers manifold but both of them also use the least amount of CPU. Chrome6 is far left behind in HTML5 speed but when it comes to running javascript, Chrome is many times faster.

Hardware acceleration doesn’t seem to be the only route to improve the browser performance, but it proves to grant an edge to Microsoft as it happens to control both the software and the platform. Microsoft still has to work on things like sync, upgrade mechanism and plug-ins. Luckily, Google and Mozilla do not have a reason to panic yet as many applications and documents on the web, don’t use HTML5 heavily, and if they may; developers will only start slow.

Like the saying goes “Nothing comes in complete packages”; all the web browsers so discussed have their own share of hits and misses. It eventually; like always comes onto the shoulders of a consumer to choose the best amongst all.
