Computer chip maker AMD has launched 1GB AMD FirePro V4900 for computers that require high data processing speed especially suited to graphical content.

The AMD FirePro V4900 stands in a league of its own and redefines entry-level professional graphics card capabilities,” said Sandeep Gupte, general manager of Professional Graphics, AMD.

He added FirePro V4900 leverages AMD’s most advanced graphics technology and features AMD Eyefinity multi display technology that supports up to six displays to increase productivity.

AMD FirePro V4900 more than doubles the performance of competitive offerings in many digital content creation (DCC) and computer aided design (CAD) application tests, the statement said.

The chipset will be available in a range of systems from HP and others.

HP workstation customers operate at the highest levels in every industry  they demand solutions that deliver optimum performance.

By integrating the AMD FirePro V4900 into its workstations, HP is providing customers with a powerful graphics solution at an affordable price Jeff Wood, vice president, Worldwide Marketing, Commercial Solutions, HP said.

WIth a pricetag of just $189, AMD’s FirePro V4900 has 1GB of 128-bit GDDR5 RAM that drives memory bandwidth of 64 GB/s.

It’s not the most powerful of AMD’s FirePro units, but it is priced to move, and will come as the default graphics card in certain Dell, HP, and Fujitsu workstations.
