The add on couples to your Apple charger, in place of the extension cord or plug adapter, allowing you to leave one of your chargers at home.

This sort of simultaneous charging is especially beneficial when you have two devices and only one power outlet, without any means of diverting the power to the second device.

The device also stood out because it could plug into a laptop dock, letting users surf the full web using Motorola’s webtop software.

The Motorola Atrix 2 ups the ante with a bigger and more vibrant display than its predecessor (4.3 inches vs 4 inches) and a sharper 8-megapixel camera (up from 5-MP), Motorola also offers a redesigned Lap dock with a better keyboard.

At $99, the Atrix 2 is certainly affordable, giving the iPhone 4 a run for its money for AT&T customers.

Read on to find out how just how satisfying this sequel is, it’s a black slab with a screen dominating the front, but the Atrix 2 has a little flair.

A small chrome speaker grille and dark chrome trim lends the device some elegance, while a texturized rubber-coated back makes the Atrix very comfortable to hold. Gone, though, is the fingerprint reader from the Atrix, which we thought an innovative security feature.

Measuring 4.96 x 2.59 x 0.4 Inches and weighing 5.2 ounces, the Atrix 2 is a bit bigger than the original, but that’s because it’s sporting a larger 4.3-inch display, as opposed to the 4-inch panel on the Atrix.

More or less the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S II, the Atrix 2 weighs about an ounce more, but doesn’t feel bulky, the added heft made it feel more substantial.

The back of the phone has an 8-megapixel camera with flash, while a microUSB and microHDMI port are on the lower left edge.

The top has the power button and a 3.5mm headphone jack, and the left edge has volume controls and a camera button a feature that should be on every phone.

The Atrix 2′s 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) display is one of the best and brightest we’ve seen yet on a smartphone, Not only was text and movies crisp and highly detailed, but brilliant.

The Avengers trailer streamed from YouTube was almost as good as watching it on a real notebook, In fact, the Atrix 2′s display outshone that on its keyboard dock.

Using an AEMC CA813 Lightmeter, we measured a brightness of 518 lux, which is nearly as bright as the iPhone 4S (549 lux) and more than twice as bright as the AT&T Galaxy S II (213 lux).

Instead of the pinch to zoom capabilities copied throughout the smartphone industry.

Nokia has come up with a novel way to accomplish the same thing When you bend and twist this handset.

The image on its screen does your bidding in a highly intuitive way.

One of the advantages Nokia touts for such a device is the ability to use it without looking at it for instance, twisting it in your pocket to dismiss a call or change song on a music player.

How does it work? According to CNET, a Nokia demonstrator said the company was experimenting with bundles of carbon nanotubes whose properties change when they’re stretched.

Those nanotubes are embedded in a flexible substance that allows the device to control the screen when twisted and bent.

An additional advantage.

The device is much tougher and is water resistant, too.

We’ve heard of displays that might be capable of folding like a newspaper and rolled up like a tube, but the idea of controlling by bending is different.

Imagine the possibilities, Perhaps it could be used by blind people, where the bending properties of the device would not require vision to intuitively control a smartphone.

When will we see such a thing in the real world? Nokia’s not saying precisely when its kinetic device will be released, but one rep tells IntoMobile in the video embedded below, “hopefully soon.”

Nokia will show off the first Nokia Windows Phones to the world at the Nokia World event on Oct. 26-27 in London.

This is in line with the previous announcement that the first WP devices from Nokia will hit Europe this year, but an official date has been locked down.

Nokia also plans to show more than one device, since Lees used plural Nokia phones.

He also said that Nokia’s devices will have differentiating hardware and software, meaning we’re not just going to see Windows Phone Mango in a slightly different shell.

Nokia has recently cut a significant portion of its workforce, mostly as a result of poor smartphone sales.

It simply cannot risk another failure with Windows Phone devices, and we eagerly await to see what they have in stock for this holiday season.

The original batch of Windows Phone 7 smartphones all had very similar hardware, per Microsoft’s specifications.

So, to be genuinely excited about any of these, someone must have done something right.

However, the problem with these types of programs is that you have to talk in an almost robotic tone to make them actually do something.

This could be frustrating even for an English instructor and even harder for us who don’t possess flawless communication skills.

Voice recognition software aims to make our life easier by letting us “speak” our commands rather than typing them into a device or using our fingers to push buttons.

Just imagine the possibility of surfing the Internet by simply voicing out your commands.

It takes a great phone to put this into practice.

When it comes to voice recognition software, the quality of the sound captured determines the effectiveness of the software.

Voice activation works by breaking down sound into chunks.

In written English, words are formed by combining 26 letters.

In spoken English, on the other hand, words are formed by combining about 40 phonemes (sound units).

Voice activation works by recognizing these phonemes and converting them into instructions.

It also requires some well-designed algorithms to predict which exact word you’re saying in relation to the whole sentence or command.

Voice Actions for Android is a feature which allows owners of an Android smartphone equipped with Android 2.2 (or higher) to control their devices by simple voice commands.

Google’s Voice Actions for Android is Android’s official face for voice recognition and activation technology, but there are similar apps readily available on the Android Market.

Voice Actions for Android may seem inferior compared to its iPhone counterpart, but with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich right around the corner, a more fine-tuned voice recognition app is not far behind.

Amazon is set to join the tablet wars as it launches a rival to Apple’s best selling iPad, a device that has made digital tombstones of all the competition so far.

If the Fire does prove to be an iPad rival it will pitch the brainchildren of Steve Jobs and Jeff Bezos, two of Silicon Valley’s most innovative tech giants.

Against each other in a battle analysts say will present the biggest challenge yet to Apple’s dominance of the tablet market.

With so little detail available Gartner analyst Michael Gartenberg said he was reluctant to speculate too much. “But it feels like something big is about to happen,” he said.

The retailer is the biggest online books seller and the US’s second largest seller of music online after Apple’s iTunes, and it has been increasingly building up its online movies and TV sales and rentals business.

The company signed a deal with Fox this week that it said means it now offers more than 11,000 movies and TV shows available via its Amazon Prime service.

“Amazon has tremendous reach. That makes a huge difference,” says Gartenberg.

The retailer has a very different approach to Apple, he said, but that is what may make them Apple’s biggest threat to date.

Amazon is also competing with Apple to offer a cloud based media storage service that would allow customers to access anything they buy on any device connected to the internet.

Amazon has its own app store already and access to the purchasing habits of its millions of customers and their credit card accounts.

“The Kindle for Amazon was about selling books and magazines. Apple’s business is about selling devices. You are looking at very different approaches,” he said.

Amazon hopes its brand recognition and loyal book-buying customer base will enable it to do battle with Apple, which produced 75% of the tablets sold this year.

The 4 GB memory card model will be priced at 2,200 Yen, which is the equivalent of about 30 dollars at the current exchange rate, while a 8 GB model will set players back 3,200 yen.

now the company has also begun talking about the memory cards that interested gamers will be able to get in order to extend the capacity of the device.

more memory space can also choose to get 1 6 GB memory card for 5,500 Yen and, the biggest one of the line, a 32 GB card for 9,500 Yen, which is about 124 dollars.

Sony will also allow third party manufacturers to create memory cards that work with the PlayStation Vita but the company is also saying that all unofficial cards are not guaranteed to work with the handheld and that all those who want security for their save games and their content needs to get them from Sony.

Google has just closed its biggest acquisition to date, and in the process has declared war on Apple in the world of mobile devices.

The company announced this morning that it was buying smartphone and tablet maker Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion in cash, paying a whopping 63% premium on Motorola’s closing share price.

The companies said both boards had approved the deal, which will give Google complete control of the manufacturer of smartphones and tablets like the Xoom, which run the Android operating system.

At the beginning of this this year Motorola spun off Motorola Mobility, its mobile device and home entertainment unit, changing its name to Motorola Solutions. The parent company said it would focus on providing communications services to government agencies and the private sector.

But Motorola Mobility failed to thrive on its own, as the writer Staska on UnwiredView.com points out. While Motorola did well to focus on producing devices that ran on Android.

There were delays to its LTE device releases, the product mix became uninspiring and HTC and Samsung became bigger threats.

Staska points that that in an interview with Fortune a month ago, Motorola’s CEO Sanjay Jha said he expected much consolidation in his industry. Then he said: “Do we expect Motorola to be an independent company? I don’t know yet.”

Staska then suggests that Google should buy Motorola Mobilty, adding Google would “get a world class mobile device hardware R&D team, that can help push Android limits with a Nexus line.”
