WASHINGTON, DC, 18 Oct. 2010 – Judith Rodin, president of the Rockefeller Foundation, will deliver a keynote speech, kicking off the final day of the 2010 mHealth Summit, Wednesday, November 10, the conference organizers announced today. Dr. Rodin’s remarks will address how the dramatic rise in cell phone use even in the poorest countries, is enabling the use of mobile technologies to support wellbeing and fight disease globally.

The 2010 mHealth Summit is organized by the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health in partnership with the mHealth Alliance and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The event will take place November 8-10 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C.

David Aylward, executive director of the mHealth Alliance welcomed the announcement saying:

“Under Dr. Rodin’s leadership, the Rockefeller Foundation has emerged as a global leader in strengthening health outcomes in low income countries, particularly through the development of digital health information systems. Together with the United Nations Foundation and Vodafone Foundation, Rockefeller is also a founder of the mHealth Alliance. We are delighted she will share her perspective at the summit.”

Rodin joins confirmed keynote speakers including: Bill Gates, Co-Chair and Trustee, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation; Ted Turner, Chairman, United Nations Foundation; Aneesh Chopra, U.S. Chief Technology Officer; Francis S. Collins, Ph.D., Director, National Institutes of Health; and Dr. Julio Frenk, Dean of Faculty, Harvard School of Public Health and former Minister of Health, Mexico.
