Blogs and Social Media Play Center Role in Society

 Kuala Lumpur, 28th July 2010 – Asian Bloggers and Social Media Conference 2010 held on 28th & 29th July 2010 at the Berjaya Times Square Hotel was a huge success and saw a crowd of 400 people from across Asia.

Datuk Raja Nong Chik Zainal Abidin, Federal Territories and Urban Well Being Minister, said in his closing speech at the Asian Bloggers and Social Media Conference 2010 yesterday, that blogs and social media play an important role in society, and due efforts be given to improve such activities, blogging is not all negative as perceived by some. He shared, The Ministry’s BlogforFT competition held earlier this year showed blogging helped highlight the positive aspects of Malaysian society. He said, the ministry explores many avenues to engage with the people and he spends a set time on Facebook to keep in touch with the people and address their grouses and complaints. He encouraged people to use the Internet and reap its full benefit.

Shahul Hameed, Chief Executive Officer at My Events International the organizer of this event, said, “with the advent advancement of social media in the world today, individuals and businesses are looking for creative ways to take advantage of it.

The keynote address was presented by Yang Amat Berbahagia Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad. As one of the global elder statesman, he is also a prominent blogger. His note was on Building a Community around Your Cause by Attracting and Engaging People. The conference saw prominent bloggers and social media experts across Asia discussed various topics on how social media can increase an organization’s bottom-line.
